I've been an online community manager full time for the last ten years. Before that, and indeed before the internet was publicly available, I set up and managed online communities for the Farm Aid shows (first three shows).
While I am sometimes constrained by what a company already has in place, if I'm brought in early enough, I almost always recommend Drupal.
I'm fascinated by this project, and hope to follow along.
